Not JUST children’s dance recitals
Not JUST experimental projects
Not JUST reality TV
Not JUST in clubs
Not JUST for holidays
Not JUST in music videos
Not JUST for a school assignments
Not JUST when mom makes you
Not just “high art”
Not just “street art”
Because
ALL ART
and
ALL DANCE
is
FOR ALL
At least it should be
And that’s what we’re doing

On Our Minds: Dance On TV
This seems to be the theme of the day for many dance organizations and companies. Here’s my reply to one discussion:
Dance on TV is definitely a love/hate situation for me. Dance gets right into the world’s living room, which is rad, but it is giving the right image?
How much does it matter? Could it just be good to have dance on people’s minds?
Do people realize that Dance Moms is dramatized for ratings like all reality tv? Do they want to see live, professional shows after watching SYTYCD?
I think we need to find a way to reach out to “non dancers,” not just us dance folk, and see what THEY think about dance and the dance world after seeing these shows.
